We live in a world that is fast paced, doesn’t sleep and consumes tons of stimulants to keep us going. Many are proudly self-confessed workaholics, even when our body is crying out for a break. But this is not natural to our being and how we were created. In the course of the day itself, we begin to realize that already our minds are tired and our bodies are aching. Recently I was reminded how important it is that we take time for rest. But the question is whether the rest we take really “quietens” our entire being — soul, mind and body. It’s not just are we made for rest but that our rest is in God and we need to make ourself available to hear God working in our lives. As St. Augustine prayed, “Our hearts were made for you God. And they shall never find rest until they find their rest in you.
