One Film, One Old St. Pat's
The biblical call to charity, justice, and peace claims not only
each believer, but also each community where believers gather for
worship, formation, and pastoral care. Over the last century, these
biblical mandates have been explored and expressed in a special way
in Catholic social teaching. The central message is simple: our faith
is profoundly social. We cannot be called truly “Catholic”
unless we hear and heed the Church's call to serve those in need and
work for justice and peace.

Description of the Film Series
Taking our cue from Chicago's highly successful "One Book, One Chicago"
program, the Justice Initiative invites your participation in "One
Film, One Old St. Pat's." This unique film series draws attention
to Catholic Social Teaching, the body of social principles and moral
teachings that are meant to guide the response of individual Catholics
to the economic, political, and social order. These documents teach
us that our Catholic identity cannot be separated from our response
to social and economic issues such as poverty, human rights, justice,
and peace. Yet, many Catholics remain relatively unfamiliar with the
principles of Catholic Social Teaching or have had little opportunity
to explore how their Catholic identity calls them to respond to our
complex, modern world. Films in the "One Film, One Old St.
Pat's" film series are chosen to represent a selected principle of
Catholic Social Teaching.
