MUSIC: NPM Chicago
A note from Rory Cooney
NPM Chicago is the local chapter of the National Pastoral Musicians Association and is a resource for music directors, associates, and ministers around Chicago. I am on the board of NPM Chicago as the representative for Vicariate 3. One of our offerings is quarterly opportunities for formation, workshops, and continuing education, specifically for pastoral musicians.
We are in the last stages of confirming Monday, May 22 as an evening with Rory Cooney presenting as part of our “Best Practices” series and specifically regarding music for weddings and funerals. This is a great opportunity to open our doors to the Chicago pastoral musicians community. While the evening presentation would mainly be in the hall, they would like an opportunity for Jim to lead a church tour as part of the event.
Please let me know ASAP if you have any objections, concerns or questions! Contact Jennifer at firstname.lastname@example.org
A few more notes about the workshop:
This is not an evening about repertoire, but about relationship. We want to focus on the pastoral approach Rory suggests/uses throughout his process with couples, and with bereaved families. Help us see these encounters as the increasingly evangelizing moments that they have become; how do we address the “unchurched” with love as Jesus would; change our view from “battleground” to “mission ground”. We will invite the various publishers to have resources available, as sharing about repertoire will inevitably become part of the table talk even if not a main focus of the presentation.
