The Divorce Recovery Group helps bring healing for those who are divorced or who have filed for divorce. The divorce process often brings about unexpected and unimaginable heartache, questions, and challenges. Often, there are too few people who want to talk with you about this pain or know what to say. Divorce Recovery was created to bring hope and healing to those who have experienced the pain and loneliness of a broken marriage. It is for those recently divorced, as well as those still struggling with issues many years later. Our mission is to help get you started and keep you going on the path to recovery, rebuilding, and renewal by providing information, resources, and encouragement while weaving together the strength that comes from our Catholic faith. It will help answer questions, restore hope, and begin authentic healing. More importantly, support groups offer a safe place where people can come together for mutual support and to learn their feelings are normal and they’re not alone.
Our 8-session program meets on Monday nights at Old St. Pat’s Jack Wall Mission Center over the course of 8 consecutive weeks throughout the year. Sessions include education, discussion, and prayer. Each meeting focuses on a different aspect of the divorce healing process such as grief, stress, anger, blame, guilt, loneliness, forgiveness, and happiness. Divorced men and women, Catholic or non-Catholic, are welcome to attend. The support group is facilitated by Desiree Misanko and Sarah Thompson, mental health counselors from the Claret Center in Hyde Park. The suggested donation of $25 includes 8 sessions and the book used for the program, Divorce and Beyond.
