Family Ministry at Old St. Patrick’s Church provides quality opportunities for families to grow in faith together. Recognizing that the definition of a family takes many forms and is experienced in varied ways at different moments in our lives, we strive to address the needs of families holistically. The common denominator is that all of us are members of God’s family. Together as one family with Jesus Christ, we will grow in understanding and appreciation of family life while enriching our own families. In response:

  • We resolve to provide family-based faith through our worship, formation, our greater faith community and service to all our neighbor;

  • We commit to reach out to all families, and strive to create opportunities for family-shared faith experiences;

  • We strive to provide reflection on all our family experiences through time dedicated to children of all ages, parents, spouses and grandparents.

Family Liturgy

A very special Family Mass will be held on the third Sunday of the month, from October through May, at 9:30 a.m. in the Church. Readings, homilies, and music will be family-focused, encouraging participation by the entire congregation - young and old.

For more information, please contact Bea Cunningham, 312.831.9351.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

The family Sunday experience at Old St. Patrick's Church begins with the 9:30 a.m. Liturgy.   After opening prayers on specific Sundays children are called to attend "Liturgy of the Word."  They are escorted behind the altar where they gather in the rectory for an interactive session that helps the children learn about the readings of the day in language and activities they'll easily understand.   Children are separated by grades (preschool -- kindergarten, first -- second grade).   The children rejoin their families after the adult homily and share in the rest of the Mass.

Should you happen to be late or absent on any given Children's Liturgy of the Word Sunday, feel free to join us the next time. All pre-schoolers through second graders are welcome.

Adults wishing to volunteer for the Children's Liturgy of the Word program should contact Donna Szymanski at 312.307.5424 or oreodog322@earthlink.net or Bea Cunningham at 312.831.9351.
