Connections Celebrates "Rootin Tootin" Family Reunion at Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly

Thanks to all who helped us share smiles and provide companionship to senior shut-ins as they celebrated a western themed "Family Reunion" at Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, 355 North Ashland on Saturday, September 6th. Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly provides companionship and social interaction to isolated and lonely elders. The organization reaches out to Chicagoans over the age of 70 who live alone without meaningful social or family contacts.

Connections members prepared and served lunch to 40 rootin tootin seniors. Lunch with all the fixins was prepared and served, seniors panned for gold and all struck it rich with laughs and prizes! While we worked in the kitchen, served lunch, and provided companionship for a mere few hours, the seeing the smiles from the elders, the joy of giving, and the desire to give more lasts far beyond that. We all left feeling that we got much more out of the experience than the elders did. Thanks to Cindy Bozik and Priscilla Lueras for their outstanding efforts in arranging this heartfelt endeavor and to all our volunteers for giving of themselves!

This poem was written by Ann Strzelecki, Little Brothers Senior Volunteer
What It's All About
We all come to this world for a visit
Some stay longer, some leave sooner, but we wouldn't miss it.
Despite all the trials and worldly tribulations,
Life offers many blessed and happy situations,
So while you're here on earth,
Give of yourself and share your worth,
And leave a shining example of goodness
That may lead you to a state of Heavenly blissfulness
