Monthly, 2nd Saturdays of the month
Greater Chicago Food Depository
1:30pm - 4:30pm

The Greater Chicago Food Depository (GFCD) is a not-for-profit food distribution center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. The GFCD distibutes donated and purchased food through a network of 600 pantries (many of which are supported by Old St. Pat's Outreach). The GCFD is located at 4100 W. Ann Lurie Pl., Chicago.

Connections monthly support of the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) contributed almost 500 hours of service for 2006 and valuable 'voucher credit' for some of the Old St. Pat's outreach partners.

Rebuilding Together

Our April Service Project will be Rebuilding Together. Rebuilding Together is a national nonprofit with a network of nearly 225 affiliates across the United States. Their mission is to preserve affordable housing by bringing volunteers and communities together to rehabilitate the homes of low-income homeowners. www.rebuildingtogether-chi.com

We will be working on two houses and will be doing some painting, carpentry, clean up and other household projects. This is a great event and a great opportunity to make a difference. To volunteer or for further information, please contact Jim Breen at jbreen@kpmg.com.

Hope Sunday

3rd Sunday Social at Lalo's on Maxwell Street

Join your Connections friends for fun and fellowship at Lalo's, 733 Maxwell Street after the Hope Sunday 10am mass . Mass will end around 11:30. Maxwell street is only one block south of the Forum. We'll have the patio, so pray for nice weather and join us for some great Mexican food and beverages. If we don't have nice weather, what the heck… we have margaritas and each other! Contact Keelin Murphy for more details at keewee@iglide.net.

Wednesday, June 18
PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving)

Calling all animal lovers! Join us for a night of making new friends (both 2-legged and 4-legged) on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 from 5 to 9pm!

Connections is excited to be able to offer a new service opportunity to help those adorable furry friends many of us have and love! We are also debuting a special weeknight schedule for this event so that you will not even have to miss one of our precious Chicago-summer Saturdays in order to join us!

We will be partnering with PAWS Chicago at their Adoption and Humane Center on 1997 N. Clybourn (parking lot is available). Founded in 1997, PAWS Chicago is the city's largest non-profit, no-kill humane organization. Their work is focused on alleviating our city's tragic pet overpopulation problem - 19,701 dogs and cats were euthanized in Chicago in 2006.

We will spend the evening walking/socializing dogs, socializing cats, cleaning kennels and litter boxes, preparing Kongs and cleaning the playroom area. We can arrive at PAWS anytime that Wednesday, from 5 to 6:30pm (which allows plenty of time even for those of you who don't work in the city to make it after work) and our evening at the Center will end at 8pm.

If there is interest, we will continue the evening with fellowship and food/drink nearby.

Please contact Denise Bossung to sign up. We are limited to 14 volunteers so sign up now!
