God of mercy and love,
Bless us and this day of fasting.
May this ancient practice serve us well,
Making room within our souls for a spirit of solidarity and compassion,
And deepening our awareness
of all those among us
who hunger, body and soul.
And so we lift our hearts in prayer, and remember:
the poor and the homeless,
those who yearn for friendship and love,
the oppressed and the imprisoned,
those made to feel ugly and unwanted,
refugees and those displaced by wars,
the fearful and anxious,
men and women who cannot find work,
the restless and uncared for,
and all those who have no food for themselves or for their children.
Body and soul, we are all hungry.
Body and soul, we all need to be fed.
God of mercy and love, we pray,
May all who hunger be satisfied.
