A big word of THANKS to all who are working so hard to make our World’s Largest Block Party a big success this coming week. I am so deeply grateful to our fearless leaders from the Old St. Pat’s staff, Sheila Greifhahn and Kathleen Quinlan, who are so incredibly dedicated by all the time, creativity, and coordinating they have been doing for many months to get ready for Chicago’s most popular summer party! And of course they would be the first to say that if it wasn’t for the incredible volunteers who jump in, none of this would be possible. Welcoming several thousand people to our “block” is a big deal. Thank you all for supporting it through your participation, marketing, and purchasing of Pot O Gold tickets too!
Many have been asking about the new building across the street, 625 W Adams, and the parking structure. Our Operations Director Mike O’Gara has been working very hard to hammer out the details with the owners of the building and the parking company to make sure our use of the parking lot is seamless. Somewhere in this publication is an announcement about an “orientation” to the parking lot on Sunday, July 1 and then our exclusive use of the lot beginning on July 8. Please know and please be prepared that parking in a structure is not as easy or convenient as parking in a surface parking lot. Thankfully, now and for the foreseeable future, we will still have use of both the parking lots and also our new structure. But when the day comes and those parking lots are no longer available, a prayer for patience will need to be invoked when we use the 625 Adams structure, exclusively. Everyone will need to go slow and take your time coming and going in that facility.
As for the other space in that building of 625 Adams, you may or may not know that Old St. Pat’s is also assuming ownership of a new 21,000 square foot “great space” where we plan to have overflow masses, events, concerts, talks, dinners, whatever the mission calls for! Because we are still working out occupancy details and other matters (not the least of which is buying furniture this summer), we plan on having our first official “Open House” on Sunday, August 26 after all the masses here at Old St. Pat’s. Afterwards, during the 2018-19 school year we hope to “roll out” the new space with various events to celebrate its grand opening. A lot of years and a lot of thought went into this new arrangement for this space.
Finally, just a heartfelt word of blessing to all the dads today. Happy Father’s Day to all of you who celebrate this great day. To all of our dads, living and deceased, we thank you and we lift you up in prayer to God today. And to all of you as individuals who serve in both capacities as mom and dad in your household, bless you abundantly with strength and guidance. Enjoy the day!
