Sarah Thompson, Parish Counselor

Sarah Thompson is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who works with individuals and couples
as they seek healing, growth, and deeper understanding amid life’s challenges. Her approach integrates
each client’s values and spiritual beliefs into the counseling process and is grounded in openness,
acceptance, and collaboration. At this time, Sarah’s counseling practice is full and she is not accepting
new clients.

As part of Old St. Pat’s Pre-Cana team, Sarah facilitates the Prepare/Enrich assessment, a research-based
tool that helps engaged couples identify strengths and areas for growth as they prepare for marriage.

She also assists couples who are completing marriage preparation outside of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
This process includes building the prenuptial file—the canonical documentation required by the Church
to ensure a marriage is valid, lawful, and free from impediments. Preparation begins 6 to 12 months prior
to the wedding and supports couples in entering into this lifelong, sacramental covenant.

Sarah began her professional career in the corporate sector and holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of
Management at Northwestern University. She later transitioned into entrepreneurial and nonprofit work
before pursuing her vocation in counseling. She earned her Master’s degree from The Chicago School of
Professional Psychology and has been practicing since 2015. Her clinical training includes work in grief
and trauma, Gottman Method couples counseling, and relationship enrichment. She is a certified
Prepare/Enrich facilitator and an Illinois-certified domestic abuse advocate. Drawing from her experience
as a recreational triathlete, Sarah values a holistic, biopsychosocial approach to health and well-being.

Sarah and her husband have been married for over 35 years and have four adult children.

She can be reached at [email protected]
