In Memory of Sean Arnold Darke

Picture of Sean DarkeIt is with much sadness that we share with you the untimely death of our friend and co-worker, Sean Darke who was the director of buildings and grounds here. As some of you may know, he was involved in a motorcycle accident over the weekend, and passed away on Saturday evening, May 23rd. He was a beloved friend to our community, and will be deeply missed.

Please keep his wife Skye, his children Monaye, Sean Jr. and Camrin, his parents Howard and Jessie, and the entire Darke family in your prayers as they grieve for the loss of their dear loved one.

Rev. Thomas J. HurleyWelcome to Old St. Patrick’s Church!

We are delighted to welcome you to our Web site and even more enthused to share with you some of the aspects of our mission. Old St. Patrick’s is the second oldest parish in the city of Chicago, dating back to its humble beginnings in 1846. Construction of the church began in 1853 and was completed and dedicated during Midnight Mass, 1856. Having survived the great Chicago Fire of 1871, Old St. Patrick’s stands as the oldest public building in the city.

Standing on the edge of the business district in downtown Chicago, Old St. Pat’s has been founded as a place of welcome and hospitality. We are a thriving Catholic community of faith with a membership that expands over 200 zip codes around the greater Chicago region. Old St. Pat’s prides itself on being a mission-centered church that serves the life and work of the laity in the world. The energy for our mission comes from the vibrant, Liturgical worship set forth by the vision of the Second Vatican Council. Nourished at the Lord’s Table, we challenge each other to go forth and transform the world into a holier, peaceful, and more just place to live. We invite you to join us for Sunday Mass and know you are always welcome at Old St. Patrick’s Church.

Please enjoy the Old St. Pat’s Web site and be inspired by the many facets of this exciting mission.  Learn more about the various opportunities for ministerial outreach, retreats, young adults, family ministry, adult faith formation, special events, and so much more.

May the Lord Bless you Kindly,Rev. Thomas J. HurleyRev. Thomas J. Hurley

Please Note: We have redesigned the Old St. Patrick Web site in an effort to be more inviting and easier to navigate. Our ultimate goal is to be as welcoming on our Web site as we are when you enter the church.
We will be taking a phased approach to this Web site redesign effort, so when you click into certain pages you will go back to our old Web site until we have redesigned those pages. We appreciate your patience during this redesign period.
