IDOT Jane Byrne Circle Interchange Project – Street Closings
This major highway reconstruction project is already underway and, in addition to highway safety and operational improvements, will incorporate aesthetic features and improve surrounding streets with inclusion of bike lanes, wider sidewalks, and improved access to transit. For Old St Patrick’s, these improvements, which will include a noise-barrier wall, added green space, new sidewalks and paved streets, and an improved driveway to the west of campus, will be the result of a 3+ year construction program.
The project began in late February with the closing of the Monroe Street bridge between Halsted and Des Plaines. Staff access to the 711 W Monroe building will be protected, but will be disrupted at times.
Access to the surface parking lot (Parking Lot 1) on Des Plaines between Madison and Monroe will remain open to the public, along with the roped private parking area reserved for staff of OSP, FXW, and our partners in the Aronin Center for Social Concerns at 703 W Monroe.
Upon completion of the Monroe Street bridge and street improvements, the Adams street bridge will be closed between Halsted and Des Plaines. This phase of the project will include the west side campus work of building walls and adding green space.
Please keep an eye and ear out for further announcements and updates.
Again – Monroe Street will be closed to all traffic from Halsted to Des Plaines!
