Funeral Liturgies
Notice - March 27, 2020
Mindful of the current health restrictions we will attempt to offer each family pastoral care. In light of this pandemic we have been asked by the Archdiocese to suspend all Catholic Funerals Masses during this time. This crisis challenges us to act responsibly by following the social isolation guidelines while striving to stay close emotionally and spiritually to you as you face the death of your loved one.
We ask at this time if you would make a connection with the funeral parlor and/or cemetery to offer simple prayers at graveside, and then offer a memorial service in the church at a later date. Please know that the community of Old Saint Pat's shares your grief and stands with you like Mary and John at the foot of the cross of Christ. We know that this time is one of emotional fatigue, but as a church we are committed to your families until such as time as we are able to help your family plan a proper memorial to honor your loved one in the future. We will find meaningful ways to help you celebrate your loved one’s life even if the funeral that we would have been preferred isn’t possible at this time. Please call us at the pastoral emergency cell at 312-493-8737 to discuss how we might serve your families.

ARRANGING A CATHOLIC FUNERAL
It is during the Funeral Liturgy that we remember not only the life of the one who has died but also the presence of the Lord Jesus in that person’s life. The death of a loved one is a time of great sadness and personal grief. We are also available to the dying themselves, should they want to be a part of the planning of their own funeral, but more commonly, we are here to provided our members assistance on the sad occasion of the passing of a loved one.
As you make all the preparations for the funeral, we at Old St. Pats are here to help and assist you in planning the Mass of Christian Burial. Know that the family of Old St. Patrick’s grieves with you for your loss, and we are here to help you in this time of need.
It is always difficult planning for a funeral, and, in times of grief, it is often not easy to make decisions. We are here to listen and to help you understand the rituals that are used by the Church when a member of the Body of Christ dies and help you with questions you might have when planning a Funeral Mass. Upon request we will be happy to provide you with suggested songs and readings for the Mass, and will assist you in making your choices.
Please call our Director of Pastoral Care, Bernadette Gibson at the pastoral cell 312- 493-8737 to make arrangements to hold a funeral at Old St. Pat’s as well as assist you with planning the Funeral Liturgy.
