Livestream FAQ

There is no registration required to view our Livestreams.  They are free and open to all. However, if you would like to receive notifications when we go live, please visit livestream.com/oldstpats and click "follow" to enter your email address.

How do I access the OSP Livestream?
Visit our Livestream landing page at livestream.com/oldstpats. When we are live, the live event will always show up at the top of the page. Click on the event to bring up the broadcast. Sometimes, we will send out a direct link to an event. You can pull up this link ahead of time. We recommend refreshing the page around the event start time.

We recommend bookmarking any regularly occurring events, like our 5 pm Sunday Mass event. This way you can pull it up directly right before an event begins.

How do I find an archived OSP Livestream video?
Visit our Livestream landing page at livestream.com/oldstpats. Search through the list of events for the event you are looking for. The dashboard is organized by event creation date. For example, if you are looking for the OSP Sunday 5 pm Livestream Masses, you have have to scroll back a bit to find this event. Once you click on the event, all of the archived videos for each Sunday will show up on the right-hand side of the screen.

Can I turn the comments section off?
Yes, click on the comments bubble on the right hand side of the screen and "x" out of the chat window.

Do I have to pay to watch an OSP Livestream?
The OSP Livestream is and always will be free! Sometimes, if you pull up the Livestream website, you will come across what looks like a paywall, but this is related to creating a professional Livestreamer account. You can create a viewer account for free at livestream.com. Please access our dashboard directly at livestream.com/oldstpats

Troubleshooting while watching a Live Event

While our Livestream system does occasionally experience connection interruptions, typically event pausing and buffering is due to individual internet connections. The first thing to do if the event pauses is to wait at least 10 seconds to see if it reloads. If it does not, refresh the page. This will typically bring you back to where you were in the video. If you are experiencing a lot of interruptions, we recommend watching the archived event video after the livestream has concluded.

To watch an event on Livestream, please ensure you have the following:
  • System Requirements: Windows 7 or higher, Mac OS X 10.6 or higher
  • Supported desktop browsers:
    • Google Chrome 45+
    • Mozilla Firefox 49+
    • Safari 10+
    • Microsoft Edge 15+
    • **Internet Explorer 11 - requires Flash plugin to be installed
  • Supported mobile browsers: Chrome 45+, Safari 10+ (iOS)
  • Internet Connection: 5-10mbps download speed is recommended. Check your connection at www.speedtest.net.

We recommend viewing Livestream from a wired connection with a download speed of at least 1Mbps.  To test your speed, go to www.speedtest.net. Bandwidth fluctuates constantly (especially on Wi-Fi and mobile internet), so running multiple tests is recommended.

How can I watch the Livestream (device options)?

Watching an event on Livestream can take place in any of the following ways:

Desktop Browser
Livestream Event pages work on most major browsers on Windows and macOS. We recommend using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari when viewing Livestream from your computer.  It’s best to update your browser whenever possible.

If you are having trouble viewing a live event on Livestream, it's possible the producer is sending the stream at a bitrate higher than your connection can handle. Check your download speed at http://www.speedtest.net/. We also recommend clearing your browser’s cache and ensuring your browser is updated to the most recent version.

Mobile Browser
Live video streamed to Livestream is viewable on most iOS and Android mobile browsers. Open the browser on your mobile device. Type in livestream.com/oldstpats to bring up our dashboard, or paste in the full direct event link. When you arrive at the event page, click the play button on the player in the browser to open the live player. The same applies to any event whose live player is embedded on a different website.

Livestream mobile app
Any public event on Livestream can be viewed via the Livestream mobile app. This is available as a free download for both iOS devices in the App Store and Android devices in Google Play.

You will need to log in to a Livestream account. If you don’t have an account you can sign up for one directly from the app. Enter your name, email address, and create a password. You will be able to access your account immediately. Once you are logged in, you can follow accounts and search for accounts and events.

Chromecast
If you own a Chromecast, you can use it in conjunction with the Livestream mobile app to watch Livestream events on your TV. When you open a Livestream event, the Chromecast icon will appear on the player. Select it to start casting that event to your TV.

Livestream Roku Channel
If you own a Roku device you can add the Livestream channel to your library for free.

When you open the Livestream channel, you can select from any of the events featured on Livestream, or scroll down to the bottom to search for a specific account or event. There is no need to log into an account in order to watch a Livestream event from Roku.
  • Go to the App/Channel store and download “Livestream”.  (it’s free!)
  • Launch the Livestream app and SEARCH for “Old Saint Patrick’s Church”.

Livestream tvOS App
Owners of the 4th generation or higher of Apple TV can install the free Livestream tvOS app to their device.

When you open the Livestream channel you can select from any of the events featured on Livestream. A search function can be found at the top of the main page to find a specific account, event, or video on demand to watch. There is no need to log into an account.
