Spiritual Life at Old St. Pat's

Spiritual Companionship

Spiritual companionship is an ancient tradition. Its purpose is to nurture personal relationships with the Sacred in daily life through dialogue and practices that open us to the leading and healing power of the Holy Spirit. Paying attention to the spiritual dimension may generate a new zest for living, the discovery of a calling or a future open to new possibilities.

Spiritual directors are trained and experienced in sacred conversation. By listening attentively, they are often able to help you understand God’s actions in your life. Reflecting on the wisdom they hear, encouraging trust and response to callings, they hold you in prayer for God’s grace.

Spiritual Companionship does not tell you how to act or pray in a particular way, nor is it psychological counseling or psychotherapy.

Personal Sessions

During the one-hour sessions with a spiritual director, you share life stores and gain insights using techniques of inquiry, mindfulness and prayer. Spiritual directors help point to those issues and instances in a person’s life that open them to the leading and healing power of the Holy Spirit.
If you are interested in exploring one-to-one spiritual companionship, contact Tammy Roeder at tammyr@oldstpats.org to schedule a preliminary meeting with a spiritual director. During the meeting, you will learn more about spiritual companionship and financial contributions. (Financial contributions generally range between $50 to $100 per session depending on individual financial resources.)
